The big new lift in Meribel this winter is a six-person chair which will replace the old Roc de Tougne draglifts. For those in the know the Roc de Tougne draglifts have been the place to go when the weather turns bad (or less good!) and other pistes are shut. We are being assured this new super-fast chair will remain open in all weathers as well.
The other big investment has been the expansion of the Altiport reservoir. It looked pretty big already, but is now four times its previous size. For us golfers this meant that the 16th hole had a temporary green all summer! This is a major investment by the resort, which will help ensure that there is sufficient water to service the huge network of snow cannons. I am unaware of another ski area with the same snow cannon network as the 3 valleys. And why do we call it the 3 Valleys, when we now have 4?
Other changes have also happened.
- There is a new magic carpet lift for beginners at the Rond Point.
- The toboggan runs in Méribel and Méribel Mottaret have been improved
- Free Wi-Fi has been put on the pistes.
- Some “love chairs” have also been put on the pistes!
The Meribel Moon Park with jumps is now more suitable for moderate skiers and boarder, with the Mottaret park available for the more advanced jumper.
The children’s ski area The Yeti Park in Mottaret has also been improved. This really is a fabulous facility for children to ski in and play in an igloo, have their own little lifts, ski in a tunnel, ring bells and all sorts of other enjoyable activities.
Further afield there is a new Arondiaz gondola in Courchevel 1650. There is a new 10 Seater Moraine gondola in Val Thorens.Finally there is a new piste from the famous Follie Douces in Val Thorens..
