World-famous pistes
Meribel is located in the heart of the Trois Vallées ski area, the largest ski area in the world with 169 ski lifts, 33 black runs, 129 blue runs, 125 red runs, 33 green runs, 2 Olympic runs in Meribel, 600 km of marked ski runs and over 110 km of cross country skiing.
The resort benefits from its high altitude, and from the 2100 snow machines that have been installed, covering a third of the ski area and ensuring that skiing is always possible. There is excellent skiing for all levels. Experts can ski the Courchevel Couloirs and the many other black pistes.
Off-piste skiing is extensive, and the French ski school offer a guided group daily. Book for a day, or on their special weekly rate.
The Gébroulaz Glacier (an hour’s climb on skins, from the top of Val Thorens) is a particularly spectacular run eventually returning to Meribel.
There are endless days of skiing for intermediate skiers. The Combe du Vallon piste at Mont Vallon, the Combe de la Saulire down to Corchevel, and the Col de Laudzin at Val Thorens are particular favourites.
Learn to ski in meribel
We often hear from beginners just how amazing Meribel is for learning to ski. We have perfect pistes at Meribel Altiport and underneath the Rhodos bubble. After a week with the ESF there is usually a day’s excursion to either Courchevel or Les Menuires for the final day of the course.
Children over three learn fast at an all-day kindergarten from 9:00 am. to 5:00 pm. The day includes about four hours’ skiing, a good lunch, tea and much playing.
Children under three but over 18 months are also welcome at ESF’s ski school, but do not do formal skiing. Nannies are available in Meribel for even younger children.
We can’t promise that if you stay at Chalet Le Yeti every year you will become a prize-winning skier, but it’s got to be fun trying!
Snowboarding
Meribel and the Trois Vallees area are great for snowboarders. The pistes very well maintained with a nice powdery surface in the morning. The area benefits from the snowmaking capabilities and the modern lift systems. On a powder day, there are acres of powder to surf through at speed.
If you want to go to a park, the Moonpark in Meribel has a good wide pipe, boxes, rails and a boarder cross course. A three day pass is excellent value. In Meribel Mottaret there are two large pipes and graded hits.
There is boarding for all levels from beginners on the gentle Altiport slopes to experts in Couchevel couloirs including the infamous Priest’s couloir(Couloir du Curé) and the so called Death Couloir (Couloire de L’Antenne).
